Peace River Cruise
Not too far down the road from where we are staying is a little bar called the Nav-a-gator. It's a cool, little local place and it's located on the Peace River. Just so you know, the Peace River runs into Charlotte Harbor, which then melds into the Gulf of Mexico. Anyway, the Nav-a-gator grill runs narrated tours of the Peace River area on a big pontoon boat. They tell you all about local wildlife and a little of the history of the area. I thought it would be a good chance to see an alligator and maybe a manatee so Mike and I went on a tour this last Saturday. It included lunch at the grill before departure and there was going to be live music at the bar when we returned from the trip. It was pretty interesting for the first 45 minutes (the tour lasted 2 hours). I did get to see a few alligators that were about 8 feet long. (Photos soon)
Ok, so there are alligators in the water, well, that didn't stop some folks from putting up rope swings from the trees on the sides of the river! Crazy! It was a sunny day and the temp was in the 70's so we wore shorts and a t-shirt for the boat trip. That turned out to be a bad decision. It got to be somewhat windy out there and most of the time I froze my butt off. On the way back to the RV, we saw some more Florida wildlife. (photos soon)
Later, Saturday night, we drove out to a dark place in the countryside so we could watch the meteor shower. We only stayed out for about an hour because the temp was 43 degrees, BRRRR. I thought Florida was supposed to be warm in the winter. :)
Thanksgiving is this week, which means a 3-day week for us. YEAH! We decided to go to Key West for Thanksgiving and I am really looking forward to it. We are also going to go to Dry Tortugas National Park while we are there, so we'll be able to check off another national park from our list. Stay tuned for photos.
