Selling our stuff

I'm off today, so I've been trying to work on the upcoming garage sale. The garage sale is coming up this Saturday. Due to the regulations of the homeowners association of the neighborhood we live in, we are only allowed to have a garage sale during the specified "community garage sale" weekends. This is usually one weekend in the spring and once in the fall. Last spring, Mike and I went through our stuff and sold off a good amount of things that we really never used and therefore, have not missed. You know, the things that accumulate in life and just get moved along with you from apartment to apartment to house...basically, clutter. Last spring we cleaned out the clutter. This round of cleaning...purging...is turning out to be a little harder. We have decided to put some of our stuff, the big furniture, etc, into storage while we travel. After all, we are not planning to travel forever and we would be taking a loss to sell the stuff and then have to refurnish an entire house later. Plus, some things are just irreplaceable. Anyway, I find my self going through our belongings wondering, "should I sell this or is it worth paying to store it?" Also, we have been trying to put a few things on Ebay. Anybody can bid on them. Look us up under ebay community. Our user name is Mikefusion. Then click on items for sale. Each sale we have, we pair down a little more of our household. I think their may be one more sale, right before we move out of the house. A moving sale where we will get rid of our TV and stereo system. I'm not ready to get rid of it just yet. I don't know how the older folks who take up the RV lifestyle are able to sell all of their things. I'm sure they have accumulated so much more plus the things from their children. I'm glad this is all I have to deal with right now.

Bad weather

We didn't leave the house today due to the threat of bad weather. That means no RV shopping. I did, however, get a lot done concerning my garage sale next weekend. We are trying to pare down our belongings. I never realized how much useless crap I have. The bad weather did make me think a little about what we will do when we are in the RV and the storms pop up. I guess we'll just have to have a plan of action including a safe place we can go to in case of an emergency...or just check into a hotel. Just one more thing to think about.

Home again, home again

Well...we made it back from Cozumel on Sunday evening and I've been working hard all week in order to save up some money for our next adventure. We enjoyed Cozumel so much we are thinking about going back sometime in November. We'll see if it works out.

While in Cozumel we stayed at a little place called Villas Las Anclas. There were about 6 suites situated around a small courtyard with tropical plants and a table with chairs. Which was a nice place to sit with friends in the evening. The owner lived on site. This came in handy because the A/C in the first room we were in was not working. I think it was hotter inside than it was outside. The owner was able to move us to an empty suite that had a working A/C. I was not about to stay in a room without A/C, especially when the heat index outside was 115'F. They were decorated nicely with a big stain glass window, but it was nothing fancy. Each suite was $70/night and had easy access to the main downtown area and the main street. The water pressure was acceptable but there were some ants in the bathroom. Next time, I think we'll try staying somewhere new.

We went scuba diving 3 days and it was fantastic! Cozumel is known for the drift diving, where the you just basically float along with the current and check out the beautiful underwater scenery. Note: some days the currents are more swift than other days but you won't necessarily know this until you are in the water. It is very important to go with a reputable dive shop. We always use Aqua Safari and have found them to be very good!

We happened to be in Mexico during their independance day, Diez y Seis or September 16, which is actually celebrated on the night of the 15th. They had a big celebration in the plaza with folklorico dancers, lots of food vendors, a carnival, and the best fireworks display I have ever seen! One afternoon, we explored the ruins of San Gervasio, which date back to 600-1200ad. Athough, my suggestion would be to go earlier in the morning, like when they open, because it was mighty hot out when we were there. I think the hours are from 9-5pm but check before you go. We saw many iguanas. A few we didn't see until we almost stumbled over them. They blend in so well and can hold perfectly still.

Also, we spent some time at one of the beach clubs. We checked out a few and decided to spend out time at the San Fransico Beach club, mainly because they had a fresh water pool (along with the beach) and they had the best assortment of water toys, meaning floating icebergs and floating trampolines. We also saw some decent sealife while snorkeling there. My husband saw some rays, flounder, crabs, and giant size starfish.

This weekend we've been taking care of business around the house and going to see some live music at a festival in town. I tried to set up an appointment with a guy to detail Mike's jeep so we can get it on the sale lot but his wife just had a baby, so he is going to be out for this week. Congratulations to Darryl! Once Mike's jeep is sold, we will be a one car household for awhile, but that will give a chance to save the money that we were using on his car payment and insurance. Also, the RV dealer in town is having a sale so we may go look around a little more. Although, really, we've kind of seen his inventory already, but it's still fun to look!!!

Just a little bit of info

Just a little bit of information... as it is getting late and I am off to Cozumel at 6am. I decided to start this blog to document what it's like and what someone needs to do to start a life on the road. It is truly a journey. In the next few months, we plan to purchase a Class A motorhome (that's the big one, for those that don't know) and set out to see the country. That means we will have to sell our house and most of the stuff in it, quit our jobs, and work on the road. Right now, we are in the process of gearing up, meaning researching the motorhome market and looking for a tow vehicle. It is a big purchase! Kind of scary and very exciting at the same time! Through this blog, anyone can find out what it's like and what we're going through as we get ready for our adventure. Eventually, I hope to be writing this from the road. I better leave it at that for now. 3:45am will come sooner than expected. The next post will be after I return from Mexico.
