Our spot

We made it to "our spot" in Florida on Thursday evening. Yesterday, we drove around exploring and eventually made our way to the beach. The lower part of the gulf side of Florida is experiencing a red tide now so we didn't venture into the water. The temp outside was in the mid 80's and it would have been a great day to lay out on the beach but we didn't bring the appropriate gear (swimsuit, beach chair, etc).

Today we are still getting settled in and Mike has the internet satellite up. The park still looks pretty empty but I guess it will start filling up soon. We are only able to stay at this park until Jan 14th because after that they were totally booked. Tonight we will try some of the local bars. As we were driving around yesterday, we saw a few places advertising costume contests. That should be fun to watch.

I officially start back to work on Wednesday (at least for the next few months) and so I don't anticipate posting much to the blog during this time. Who wants to hear about boring work! Mike and I do plan to take some weekend trips so I'll post about those. We have some big plans for the weekends!

To Florida

We are now officially on our way to Florida. Mike and I had a very nice time in east Texas visiting two of Mike's sisters, their husbands, and kids, but now Florida awaits. I think with a moderate driving schedule, we should make it there within a few days. Here are a few photos of my cute nieces and nephews.

Moving on

Our time in central Texas is coming to an end. We made it back from Wichita Falls on Sunday and have spent the rest of the week taking care of business stuff (boring). Tomorrow we'll pick up the RV from the shop and spend one last night in the Austin area. Saturday, we're heading to east Texas to visit Mike's sisters and our nieces and nephews. After that, we'll drive to the Fort Myers, FL area, where we'll be stopping for a few months while I work and make some money. We've got to refill the piggy bank, ya' know! I must admit that while I'm excited to see the gulf coast of Florida, I'm not ready to leave Texas yet. I have had such a nice visit but time has gone by way too fast. Anyway, I only booked an RV park through the end of January, so even if the contract works out well, we may be leaving at the end of Jan due to lack of place to park. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Wichita Falls, TX

Mike, Mike's dad, our friend Jon, and I have made the 5+ hour drive up to north Texas to visit Mike's grandma for the weekend. Last night, we crossed the border into Oklahoma and went to a casino. No money was won, but at least I didn't lose too much and we had a really good time.

Another catch-up

Yes, it's been a while since I posted. We didn't have reliable internet and then we didn't have internet at all. Now that we have internet again, I have been too busy to post. So here's the catch-up...

Fri Sept. 29th - Bryce canyon. This deserves it's own post. Coming soon with photos.

Sat Sept. 30th - We drove from Kanab, UT to just east of Flagstaff, AZ and stayed the night at the Meteor Crater. It was a pretty big dent in the ground.

Sun Oct. 1st - After leaving the Meteor Crater, we drove to Albuquerque, NM. The next day, Monday, I had an appointment to have the Jeep's oil changed and to investigate a strange burning smell.

Mon Oct. 2nd - The Jeep appointment went fine and the smell turned out to be nothing...according to the dealership. So we travelled on, stopping in Carlsbad, NM. Here they were supposed to have internet, but it was really awful!

Tue Oct. 3rd - Mike and I took the King's Palace tour at Carlsbad Cavern. We had both been there before so we tried something different. It was so cool that after the tour, we decided to come back the next day and take the regular tour via the natural entrance route. That afternoon, we drove out to the Guadalupe Mountains National Park and looked around. On the way back to Carlsbad, we stopped at the caverns and watched the bats fly out. That night was really spectacular and they estimated there were around 1 millions bats.

Wed Oct. 4th - We did indeed go back to the cavern and it was awesome. We got a few good photos but most of them didn't turn out. We left Carlsbad around 1pm and drove to Balmorhea State Park. This was the first stop for us on our tour and we enjoyed it so much that we stopped by again. We had the pool almost all to ourselves!

Thurs Oct. 5th - Today we drove the long haul back to my home town. We have a few weeks to visit and take care of business.

Fri Oct. 6th - The first business we took care of was going to the storage building to change out some items. Boy, that really stunk! Later that night, we visited with our 2 month old nephew for the first time. He is really a cutie!

Sat Oct. 7th - Octoberfest! Also, we dropped the MH off at the dealership for some repairs.

Sun Oct. 8th - Visiting. Having a great time.

Mon Oct. 9th - Now we're getting into the "too boring for the blog" stuff. Mostly work and paperwork. As it looks right now, Mike and I will be spending Nov, Dec, and Jan (at least) on the gulf coast of Florida. I have been really busy taking care of paperwork for my contract position and finding us a place to stay. We're working out the fine details.

Tue Oct. 10th - Well, that brings us up to today. It rained 4+ inches this morning and I would say that it qualified for a real "turd floater". I'm kind of glad we weren't in the MH. The rest of the day was more boring stuff. Tomorrow is going to be another early morning so that's it for the night.
